About the GreenCLIMB Project
GreenCLIMB – Empowering Women and Promoting Sustainable Climbing is an Erasmus+ Sport project dedicated to fostering a culture of ecological responsibility within the climbing community, while addressing the underrepresentation of women in the sport.
By empowering female climbers and instructors, the project promotes sustainable climbing practices that help minimize environmental impacts such as erosion, waste accumulation, and wildlife disturbance.
Our objectives:
- Educate female climbers about the environmental impacts of climbing
- Promote sustainable and responsible climbing practices
- Empower women to become ambassadors of eco-friendly outdoor sports
- Increase women’s participation in climbing and outdoor activities
- Strengthen knowledge and skills through international and local training activities
- Support the implementation of sustainable practices within climbing communities
The GreenCLIMB training in Slovakia will consist of one weekend of outdoor and indoor climbing in the Súľov area and the city of Žilina.
Who Can Apply?
This training is designed for women who are interested in climbing, sustainability, and outdoor activities, including:
- Female climbers (beginners and experienced, though at the moment we are looking more for less experienced climbers)
- Members of sports and climbing clubs
- Women interested in sustainability and environmental protection
⚠️ Requirement: Participants should have basic climbing skills and should already know how to belay.
What to Expect
The training combines practical climbing experience with non-formal education methods. Participants can expect:
- Outdoor climbing activities
- Indoor climbing practice
- Workshops on sustainable climbing practices
- Group discussions and peer learning
- Exchange of experiences between participants
- Activities focused on environmental responsibility
Trainer: Lydia Molnarova, certified II. level climbing instructor and climbing trainer, with expertise in artificial wall and ropeway systems, rock, medium mountain, and via ferratas.

Programme Overview
- Friday, 25 September — Arrival of participants in Žilina and welcome dinner
- Saturday, 26 September — Full day of outdoor climbing at Súľov Rocks: technique and safety briefing, rock climbing, and a trekking visit to the old castle in the rocks, followed by dinner and an evening in Žilina
- Sunday, 27 September — Indoor climbing training at La Skala in Žilina, including a reflection session, a small teams competition, and wrap-up, with departure in the early afternoon
In case of rain, the indoor session at La Skala will take place on Saturday instead.
Locations
Súľov Rocks (Súľovské skaly) are one of Slovakia’s most beautiful climbing destinations, known for their impressive limestone formations, scenic views, and unique natural environment. Located about 25 km from Žilina (around 30 minutes by car). A shuttle bus will transport participants from the hotel to the climbing area and back to Žilina on the same day.
La Skala, Žilina is one of Slovakia’s largest modern climbing centres, offering routes for beginners and experienced climbers alike. It is located approx. 2.5 km from Hotel Slovakia (5–7 min by car or 30–35 min on foot) and 2 km from Žilina Main Railway Station.
Practical Information
- Accommodation: Participants will stay in twin or triple rooms in Hotel Slovakia in Žilina with private bathrooms, towel, basic toiletries.
- Meals: Provided for the duration of the training starting from dinner on Friday and ending with packed lunch on Sunday.
- Travels: Participants from Austria can travel through Bratislava (bus or train) and take a train to Žilina from Bratislava main station. There is a possibility to share a car ride with a required minimum of 3 persons per car. Please keep all tickets, boarding passes, and travel receipts (paper or electronic). Travel costs will be reimbursed according to the project rules after the activity.
- It is recommended to arrange mountain insurance for the duration of the training, covering extreme sports and climbing.
